Since its founding in 1911, Idemitsu Kosan Co.,Ltd. (headquarters: Chiyoda-ku, Tokyo; Representative Director and CEO: Takashi Tsukioka) has endeavored to make its social contribution through the supply of petroleum, lubricants and other products, as well as making efforts in cultural contributions by supporting musical and other artistic activities. As part of these efforts, it has supported “ONE ASIA Joint Concerts” in the Philippines and Singapore by AUN J Classic Orchestra (AUNJ), as a special sponsor.
This project, which launched in 2013, is a collaborative concert series by performers on traditional Japanese instruments and traditional instruments of ASEAN countries. With the cooperation of the Embassy of Japan in each country, concerts have been held in eight countries over the past three years: Cambodia, Thailand, Indonesia, Vietnam, Brunei, Myanmar, Laos, and Malaysia.
During this year, the fourth year of the concert program, concerts were held in the Philippines on November 28 and in Singapore on December 7. As a compilation of these concert activities since 2013, performers on traditional musical instruments from 10 ASEAN countries who performed with AUNJ on the tour through now joined together to perform a new kind of Asian harmony with AUNJ. The moment when performers from countries with varied cultural backgrounds created a harmonious sound based on mutual understanding attracted wild cheers from the audience as an expression, through music, of the wonderful nature of connecting people with each other across national boundaries.
The Singapore concert on December 7 (Esplanade Concert Hall)
