NSRP welcomes Ambassador Ito in landmark visit strengthening bilateral energy partnership

On May 16, 2025, NSRP had the honor of hosting H.E. Mr. Ito Naoki, Ambassador of Japan to Vietnam, along with a distinguished delegation, in a visit that highlighted the growing strategic partnership between Japan and Vietnam, particularly in the energy sector. 

NSRP proudly hosts the Japanese Ambassador’s visit

NSRP is a joint venture with strong Japanese involvement – 35.1% from Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. and 4.7% from Mitsui Chemicals, Inc., reflecting Japan’s long-term commitment to Vietnam’s energy security and economic growth. 

 Ambassador Ito Naoki was welcomed by NSRP’s leadership, including General Director Mr. Yamato Kazutaka, Deputy General Director Mr. Pham Van Chat, General Manager of Refinery Mr. Le Nguyen Quoc Vinh and the company’s division managers. 

 On behalf of NSRP Management, Mr. Yamato extended appreciation to the Ambassador and delegation, reaffirming the importance of the NSRP project as a bridge for international cooperation. He highlighted NSRP’s achievements in technical excellence, operational efficiency, and strict safety standards. “Despite global oil market challenges, NSRP remains committed to high operational performance, local community engagement, and regional development,” said Mr. Yamato.

Ambassador Ito expressed gratitude for the warm welcome, noting the visit as a significant milestone since his appointment. He recognized NSRP as a symbol of successful trilateral collaboration between Japan, Vietnam, and Kuwait. Citing recent high-level discussions between Japanese and Vietnamese government leaders, the Ambassador emphasized energy as a key pillar of bilateral cooperation and affirmed Japan’s support in addressing financial challenges faced by the Nghi Son Refinery.

Following the meeting, Ambassador Ito and the delegation toured the refinery, gaining insight into its advanced operations and dedicated workforce. He praised the strong teamwork, professionalism, and enthusiasm of NSRP’s staff, particularly the younger generation, calling it “a testament to efforts in nurturing future talent.” He also expressed optimism about the project’s progress and reaffirmed Japan’s continued support, especially on financial matters, encouraging open communication going forward.
