Officially commenced construction at the end of July 2022 in Binh Dinh, the wood pellet production plant owned by Idemitsu Vietnam Green Energy Company (IGEV), a subsidiary of Idemitsu Kosan Co., Ltd. (Idemitsu Kosan), was fully operational.

This commercial plant produces large-scale black wood pellets using advanced heat treatment technology, with an annual production capacity of 120,000 tons of Idemitsu Green Energy Pellets (IGEP). These pellets are exported to the Japanese market.

Mr. Atsuhiko Hirano, Vice President of Idemitsu Kosan, shared at the plant’s inauguration event: “The launch of this plant marks an important milestone for Idemitsu Kosan in achieving our goal of reaching a capacity of 3 million tons by 2030, not only from plants in Vietnam but also from other countries in the Pacific region. With IGEP pellets, we contribute to the neutralization goal and believe that IGEP is a practical and effective solution to replace coal and other fossil fuels, thereby reducing CO2 emissions.”

In Japan, coal is used in various industries, such as electricity generation, paper, and pulp production, chemical, and food industries, to support people’s daily lives. Idemitsu Kosan endeavors to implement this project with the aim of meeting the carbon reduction needs of coal users in Japan and thereby contributing to the supply of sustainable energy and materials.
