In order to support and improve emergency response skills related to Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemicals LLC (NSRP) for local authorities of the following communes/wards including Hai Yen, Tinh Hai and Mai Lam as well as for the local people who are living in the 4 fence-line villages including: Bac Yen (Hai Yen), Trung Son (Tinh Hai), Kim Phu and Tan Thanh (Mai Lam), teachers and students of 5 schools in Tinh Hai and Mai Lam Ward which consist of: Mai Lam Primary School, Tinh Hai Primary School, Mai Lam Secondary School, Tinh Hai Secondary School and Tinh Gia 3 High School, on the afternoon of October 8^th 2020, the Social and Community Section of NSRP held a kick-off workshop to deploy the project ” Community Emergency Preparedness and Response (CEPR)” at Thanh Hoa Fire Protection Equipment Company located in Lien Vinh village, Tinh Hai ward, Nghi Son town, Thanh Hoa province.

The workshop received participation from representatives of Nghi Son District People’s Committee; Department of Natural Resources  and Environment; Nghi Son District’s Education and Training Division; representatives of the People’s Committees of communes/wards in the project area (Mai Lam, Tinh Hai and Hai Yen); representatives of 5 schools located in Mai Lam and Tinh Hai wards; representatives of NSRP including NSRP social and community section (S&C), Health and safety section (H&S) and especially Firefighting section (FF) who support and consult for the project designing and implementation and representatives of the service provider – Thanh Hoa Fire Protection Equipment Company (FETH).

Speaking at the opening of the workshop, Mr. Trinh Xuan Duc, Deputy Section Manager of Social & Community said: “In 2020, despite many financial difficulties, NSRP has still paid special attention to ensure the safety and security for the neighboring community. Through this workshop, we would like to receive comments and support from the local authorities so the project can be implemented effectively”.

Representing the local government who is also the beneficiary, Mr. Van Huy Tran – Vice Chairman of the People’s Committee of Mai Lam Ward, said: “This project is really practical and meaningful, contributing to booster the safety and security for the fence-line communities, especially in emergencies such as natural disasters, storms, floods, explosions…. I hope that NSRP will work closely with the local people and authorities in the implementation of this project, in order to maximize project efficiency. I also hope that local leaders will facilitate and support for NSRP to successfully implement this project.”

Mr. Bui Trung Hung, Fire Fighting Section Manager (NSRP) shared that: NSRP project is designed and operated in compliance with high standard process and has to ensure safety first. NSRP also has Committee of Emergency Response with Vietnamese and international specialists. These specialists will participate in to support CERP project”

The kick-off workshop has ended successfully. The participants agreed on the time and activities of the project.. Through this event, once again, the delegates acknowledged the active role of NSRP in the implementation of social responsibility for the community affected by Nghi Son Refinery and Petrochemical plant.
